The Portsmouth Police Department (PPD) is reporting that Michael Juratovic, 24 of Sciotoville, was hit by a train on Saturday, Dec. 28.
According to released information from PPD, “At approximately 12:04 a.m. on Saturday Dec. 28, the Portsmouth Police Department received a call of a male (Juratovic) that had been ran over by a train at the Lincoln Street crossing.
Juratovic was attempting to climb over the coupler of the train at the same time the conductor placed the train in motion. The resulting movement threw Juratovic from the train. The car rolled over him and severed one of his legs. Juratovic was transported to an out-of-town trauma center for treatment.”
Media reports said Juratovic was transported to Cabell Huntington and then on to Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State University.
In the report the PPD reminded residents it is extremely dangerous, and illegal, to climb over a train.”
The PPD will continue to investigate the incident.
