Jeeps take care of Spartans at Ohio River Classic

South Webster used a 23-3 third quarter run to post a 65-42 nonconference win over Alexander Saturday in the Ohio River Classic at Marietta College.


Kacie Hall’s 23 points and six steals led the Jeeps in the win. She was joined in double digits by Sydney McCoy, who finished with 10.


A trip next Saturday to Clay will be the final game of 2013 for South Webster.

Three players reached double figures Saturday for host Oak Hill remained perfect with a 59-37 nonconference win over Coal Grove.

Leanna Adkins led the charge with a game-high 17 points. Layne Roseberry finished with 15 and Abby Haislop added 14 in the victory.

The Oaks will return to action after the new year with a Jan. 2 trip to Ironton.

Pike County Holiday Tournament Semifinals

Waverly 61, Western 44

The trio of Laken Smith, Bri Wiget and Hannah Martin all reached double figures Saturday to aid Waverly to a 61-44 win in a Pike County Holiday Tournament semifinal over host Western.

Smith finished with a game-high 20 points while Wiget had 18 points to go along with three steals and two assists while Martin added a dozen. Chrissy Woods led the Indians with 15 points and Erin Brewster added 10.

The Tigers will take on Piketon in Monday’s championship. The Redstreaks defeated Eastern 41-40 in the other semifinal. Western will take on the Eagles in the consolation game.

Despite receiving no points from Aleah Pelphrey, Piketon advanced to Monday’s Pike County Holiday Tournament championship with a 41-40 win over Eastern at Western High School

Ashlee Lawhorn led the Redstreaks with 14 points while Faith Pack and Summer Travis each grabbed 11 rebounds in the win. Carson Roney finished with a game-high 20 points while Haley Stanley finished with 10 in the loss. The Eagles will take on Western in Monday’s consolation while Piketon will battle Waverly.

A 15-0 hole was too much for Portsmouth to overcome Saturday in a 64-34 SEOAL road loss to Logan.


Peighton Williams was one of three Trojans to make it into the scoring column as she finished with a game-high 23 points in the contest. Jada Jenkins grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss.


Portsmouth will look to bounce back Monday in a nonconference road trip to Northwest. The game marks the return of Trojans coach Kristen Bradshaw to her alma mater.
