A Friday morning crash has claimed the life of a Scioto County man. Joshua M. Abrams, 35, of Wheelersburg, was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Ohio 728 near U.S. 23.
Around 1 a.m., Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash near the Lucasville branch of the Portsmouth Public Library.
“He was west bound on 728, when he started down a grade near U.S. 23,” Dispatcher Duncan of the Portsmouth Post of the OSHP said. “He drove straight in a gradual left curve, and went off the right side of the roadway, and struck a tree.”
Duncan said the tree caused Abram’s vehicle to go airborne. It then landed on the top of two vehicles that were parked in the library parking lot. Abram’s vehicle then came to rest on its top in the parking lot.
“Abram’s was pronounced dead at the scene, and the crash remains under investigation,” Duncan said.
Abrams was an adjunct faculty member in the EMT program at Shawnee State University.
“The Shawnee State community is saddened by the sudden loss of a valued colleague and friend,” SSU President Rita Rice Morris said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his students, and all who knew him.”
Abrams was also an assistant 7th grade basketball coach at Valley Middle School.
