‘Hawks notch first win

The Northwest Mohawks opened the season with a 50-37 road victory at Wellston.


K’Lee McGlurg led Northwest with 15 points while Darbie Jenkins finished the contest with 11 points, including a three-point basket.


Haleigh Vastine led the Mohawk defense with four steals while Jenkins recording two steals of her own.


Chelsea McManaway led the Rockets with 19 points, including nine free throws.


Northwest travels Monday to take on Valley in what will be the SOC II opener for both teams.

Bri Wiget’s 17 points, six assists and three steals helped Waverly to a 51-38 win over Paint Valley at Paint Valley’s Tip-Off Classic.

Laken Smith added 10 points and 12 rebounds while Hannah Martin had eight points and nine rebounds in the victory. The Tigers open SOC II play Monday at Minford.
