A driver and two motorcyclists, all from Scioto County, were flown to Columbus hospitals following a crash on U.S. 23 near Prairie Drive in Pike County Saturday.
Lieutenant V.S. Conlye of the Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports a 2004 Nissan Quest, operated by Lorenzo Bentley, 38, of Minford was westbound on Prairie Drive. Perry Hoover, 26 of West Portsmouth was operating a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle, and Tony Mershon, Jr., 22, of Portsmouth, riding a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle, were both northbound on U.S. 23.
According to the report, Bentley’s vehicle failed to yield while turning southbound on U.S. 23, and was struck by both of the operators of the motorcycles.
Bentley, and a front seat passenger, Mildred Pearl, were flown to Grant Medical Center by Air Evac. Hoover was also flown to OSU Medical Center.
The OSHP says both motorcyclists were wearing helmets at the time. The crash remains under investigation. Conley said the OSHP encourages all motorcyclists to wear helmets when riding their motorcycles.
