SOUTH SHORE, Ky. — Superior practice of safety standards has earned Graf Brothers Flooring and Lumber Inc. the KEMI Destiny Award.
The Kentucky Employer’s Mutual Insurance 2013 Destiny Award was presented to Graf Brothers Flooring and Lumber, Inc. Monday. The company is owned by Dave and Greg Graf, who have been in the flooring business for more than 40 years.
Jeremy Terry, Director of Underwriting for KEMI, commended the Graf Brothers’ ownership and staff and for their high safety practices.
“We are the largest provider of Worker’s Compensation in the state of Kentucky. We have 22,500 policy holders. Of those 22,500, we want to identify who is the best of the best,” Terry said.
State Representative, Tanya Pullin came out to show her support for Graf Brothers. Members of the staff looked on as they listened to KEMI representatives commend them for the safety excellence.
Terry said KEMI applied a statistical criteria that narrowed the list down to 45 businesses.
“Graf Brothers was one of 11 winners that were ultimately chosen from across the state. You are very select company, and it is my pleasure to present 2013 Destiny Award to Graf Brothers Flooring,” Terry said.
Jeff Floyd, Supervisor of Loss Education and Safety for KEMI, said the award is unique.
“This particular award to me is a unique award because it takes every individual at a company to win an award like this. It takes each of you caring about safety, abiding by safety rules, looking at safety issues that need to be addressed, and communicating,” Floyd said.
Floyd said prioritizing safety starts from the top of management and works its way down.
“Safety is a top-down directive. The management has to believe that in what they are doing. Safety is important, and that has to filter down to each of you,” he said.
Dave Graf said success in safety and overall business involves hard work.
“There are no shortcuts. Perseverance is everything. We are committed to safety. It is something that we all embrace here,” Dave Graf said.
