The Scioto County Ministerial Association is gearing up to host the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day. The dinner will be held at The Salvation Army in Portsmouth from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28.

The Community Thanksgiving Dinner was established with the idea of inviting fellowship within the local community. Mark Ferreira, Lieutenant of The Salvation Army in Portsmouth, said reaching out to the hungry population in the local area is paramount.

“As financial hardship in our community continues to grow, so does the need. We anticipate feeding over 300 people again this year,” Ferreira said.

Carry-out dinners will be supplied for community members that cannot attend, due to illness.

Each participating church is responsible for shut-in reservations and deliveries by Wednesday, Nov. 27. Volunteers are asked to attend meeting to be held Monday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. at The Salvation Army. Volunteers will be needed on Wednesday, Nov. 27, and Thursday, Nov. 28.

SCMA will accept donations for the purchasing of a turkeys, for $15, and $8 per pan of dressing. All donations should be made payable to Scioto County Ministerial Association (SCMA), and mailed to The Salvation Army PO Box 480, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.

The Community Dinner will also include live entertainment during the meal. All participating churches are asked to invited their instrumental/vocal musicians by Nov. 27.

“The Community Dinner would not exist without the combined efforts of so many volunteers from our area churches,” Ferreira said.
