PIKETON — The U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced on Thursday $6,812,233 in grant awards to support 11 new health center sites in Ohio — including $812,500 for the Community Action Committee of Pike County.
A spokesperson from the Community Action Committee of Pike County was not available to comment Thursday.
According to the HHS, these funds were made available by the Affordable Care Act and will help care for approximately 59,806 additional Ohioans by establishing new health center service delivery sites. Ohio health centers served 495,432 patients last year, 33 percent of them uninsured. As community-based and patient-directed organizations, health centers are well positioned to be responsive to the specific health care needs of their community. Through the Affordable Care Act’s commitment to expand access to high quality health care for all Americans, these grants will support the establishment of new full-time service delivery sites.
“We remain committed to providing more Ohioans with the quality patient-centered care they deserve,” said Secretary Sebelius. “Ohio health centers are key partners in the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, and new health center sites will increase access to those who need it most.”
Also receiving money in Ohio is Asian Service Action in Akron ($775,000), Canton Community Clinic in Canton ($108,333), Columbus Neighborhood Health Center in Columbus ($691,667), Community Health & Wellness Partners of Logan County in West Liberty ($837,233), Dayton Health Center in Dayton ($775,000), Lower Light Christian Health Center in Columbus ($216,667), Muskingum Valley Health Centers in Zanesville ($758,333), Neighborhood Health Care in Cleveland ($316,667), Talbert House Health Center in Franklin ($733,333), and Wood County ($787,500).
Nationwide, 236 health center programs will receive approximately $150 million in grant awards to serve more than1.25 million additional patients.
