There were no surprises in Tuesday’s Portsmouth City Council elections. All three incumbents were returned by their constituents.
Kevin W. Johnson was re-elected in the First War., Kevin E. Johnson, who had been named to fill the unexpired term of Third Ward Councilman Nick Basham, was re-elected. He was challenged by write-in candidate Lance Richardson. And Fifth Ward Councilman Gene Meadows, who was named to fill the seat of John Haas, who became City Solicitor, was also re-elected.
Kevin W. Johnson and Meadows were running unopposed. In the final vote count, Kevin W. Johnson garnered 211 votes while Kevin E. Johnson tallied 432 votes against 24 write-in votes. Gene Meadows finished the night with 238 votes. Both Kevin W. Johnson and Meadows had 100 percent of their votes.
For Kevin E. Johnson, it was his first election.
“I’m tired,” Kevin E. Johnson said as he watched the returns in the Scioto County Courthouse rotunda. “It has been a bundle of nerves. It has been exciting. I’ve got a great family, great friends, and I’m just looking forward to the next four years.”
