On Tuesday, the Scioto County Commissioners awarded a $264,000 contract to NME Builders and Designers LLC of Columbus to replace the roof on the Scioto County Job and Family Services building located at 710 Court St.
Paige Robbins, Director of the Scioto county Department of Job and Family Services said the warranty of the existing roof expired in early 2012.
“We have had some ongoing leaks that’s been managed under the warranty,” Robbins said. “What we found after last winter was that it really took a toll on the roof and now it’s time to replace it.”
Robbins said the existing roof was installed in 1992 when the building underwent a construction project.
“We had a building and there were additions added to it, that’s when the (existing) roof was installed,” Robbins said. “It’s (the roof) getting older and we have leaks throughout the building and we don’t want that to cause any kind of damage inside the building.”
She said the roof is roughly 14,000 square feet. This was the second time the project was put out for bid. The first bid opening was held in early September, with all of the bids coming in over original projections of $190,000. Two bids were received for the project, K&W Roofing of Pataskala, Ohio at $455,625. The second bid came from H&H Roofing Specialists of West Portsmouth at $228,000. Those bids were rejected for being too far over estimates.
Before the second bid opening was held, the estimated project cost was increased and a contract was ultimately awarded.
At the commissioners meeting on Tuesday, it was reported that preliminary work on replacing the roof could begin as soon as next week.
