The Southern Ohio Port Authority (SOPA) is anticipated to meet in special session on Friday to conduct final interviews for its executive director.
“On Friday we are likely going to report who are top people are. We still have one more to interview,” said Bud Sayer, chairman of the SOPA Projects Committee.
Sayer said he was uncertain how the process to choose someone will go.
“I do not know the position will be offered (on Friday). If we have a couple of candidates that we think are the top two, they will review and do whatever. The process on how someone is chosen will be up to the group,” Sayer said.
Last week it was announced that SOPA had chosen its top five candidates for the position: Jason Kester, Harry Staven, Michael Messerly, Doug McClure and Michele Throckmorton.
Kester, of Grove City, Ohio, attended Capital University Law School, Miami University and Shawnee State University. He is a member of the Ohio Army National Guard and is working as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney at Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney.
Messerly is the former Daily Times General Manager. His previous work experience is listed as Digital Marketing Manager at Digital Technology International and Digital Media Sales Director at Morris Communications. He has a degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
McClure is a resident of Wheelersburg and an adjunct professor at Ohio University Southern. He has a master’s degree in business administration from Morehead State University.
Throckmorton, of Lucasville, currently holds the position of Grants Administrator and Assistant Director of Economic Development for Scioto County. She has a degree from Shawnee State University with past work experience as the Economic Development Director for the Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission for 20 years.
Staven, currently resides in Richland, Wash.
“I think the meeting is going to be on the first, but that is always subject to change,” Sayer said.
Based on the job description the candidate must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, economics, finance, public administration or a related field. Experience with state, regional or local economic development is desired. The candidate must have excellent communication and public relations skills with the ability to influence others in a positive manner.The salary is commensurate with qualification and job performance with a salary range from $45,000 to $70,000.
