The Panther Players, the performing arts group of Clay Local School is set to host, “A Night of POEtry,” based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe.
“This is a night of poetry from Edgar Allan Poe. Something I like to do with the Panther Players is have them do a very diverse amount of performing,” said Joseph Pratt, Producer of a night of POEtry and Director of the Panther Players. “This year instead of just doing one play, we’re doing two plays, an artistic poetry reading, two interpretive dances and several volunteering jobs throughout the community.”
Pratt said this event would be something not typically offered during Halloween in the area.
“When we cast out fall show, we had so many kids that showed up we could not cast them. So, we thought let’s do a second show and we’ll do this every simple performance,” Pratt said.
Pratt said when he and other organizers were planing for the show, it was decided they would develop their own show using the work of Edger Allan Poe.
“The event will take Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry and putting it into a story. Edgar Allan Poe did a lot of work for the show in writing the poems, we simply organized the poems in the order we’re wanted them to read,” said Lydia Smith, Director of the performance.
She said people should attend the performance because it’s something unique being offered to the area.
Abbie Harris who plays Lenore in the performance said this is a show that none should miss.
“Since I am more of a perky person this part was more difficult for me. Though the overall experience has been really good and fun,” Harris said.
Harris explained this is not her first play and she has been performing locally since the 7th grade.
A Night of POEtry will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Clay High School. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased on the night of the performance.
