Last season marked the first time since 2007 that a school from Pike or Scioto County did not make it through to the OHSAA boys or girls soccer regional tournament.
The quest to start a new streak was drawn up Sunday when area soccer teams found out their tournament fates. The highest seed among area schools for either gender was gained by the Wheelersburg boys as the Pirates are a No. 1 seed in the Division III Southeast District tournament.
Wheelersburg will begin its tournament path Oct. 16 against the winner of the No. 5 Ironton St. Joseph-No. 4 New Boston match, which will take place Oct. 14. The Pirates are looking for their first regional appearance since 2010.
No. 2 South Webster will host No. 7 Chesapeake Oct. 14 with the victors advancing to the Oct. 16 match against either No. 3 West or No. 6 Clay. The Senators and Panthers will meet Oct. 14 in West Portsmouth.
Also in Division III boys action, No. 4 Valley opens Oct. 14 hosting No. 5 Peebles with the winner playing Oct. 16 at No. 1 Lynchburg-Clay. Lastly, No. 6 Piketon goes on the road Oct. 14 to No. 3 Chillicothe Southeastern. The winner will go Oct. 16 to No. 2 Belpre.
The Division III Southeast District boys tournament will take place Oct. 19 and 26 at Jackson High School.
Three area teams will participate this year in the Division II Southeast District tournament on the boys side. No. 5 Waverly earned the highest seed and will travel Oct. 15 to No. 4 Athens in a sectional semifinal.
No. 6 Minford will take a trip to Ohio 139 the same day to play at No. 3 Jackson. The winner faces either No. 2 Marietta or No. 7 South Point Oct. 19.
Northwest was given a No. 9 seed and will play Oct. 14 at No. 8 Gallia Academy in a sectional quarterfinal. The winner plays the next day at No. 1 Warren for a chance to play the No. 4 Bulldogs or the No. 5 Tigers.
The Division II Southeast District boys tournament will be Oct. 23 and 26 at Valley High School.
On the girls side, three area schools will aim for deep postseason runs in Division III. Action starts Oct. 15 when No. 9 West goes to No. 8 Chesapeake for an Oct. 19 date with No. 1 Lynchburg-Clay and No. 10 Northwest goes to No. 7 Peebles with No. 2 Ironton St. Joseph waiting for an Oct. 19 encounter. No. 3 Minford will play Oct. 19 as the Falcons host either No. 6 North Adams or No. 11 Alexander.
The Division III Southeast District final is slated for Oct. 26 at Athens High School.
