POINT PLEASANT — The Point Pleasant Fire Department is hosting its annual Community Fun Day in anticipation of National Fire Prevention Safety Week which is Oct. 6-12.

Community Fun Day, an annual tradition in Point Pleasant, is from noon-4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5 on the lot where the old Point Pleasant Middle School used to sit across from the North fire station. There will be free food, bounce houses, a visit from a HealthNet helicopter, fire safety smokehouse and firetrucks on display.

Point Fire Chief Jeremy Bryant said Community Fun Day is a way to give back to the community and allow the community to see what the fire service has to offer. Community Fun Day, besides being an educational tool, also allows those interested in firefighting an opportunity to find out more information on achieving that goal.

The Point Pleasant Fire Department has a massive coverage area which includes south of Crab Creek, to the Gallia County shore line along the Ohio and Kanawha rivers, U.S. 35 to the county line, W.Va. 62 to Leon and Ambrosia, W.Va. 62 north to Potter’s Creek Rd., W.Va. 2 north to Ripley, to the end of Jericho Rd., Sandhill Rd. to Plain Valley Rd. In short, the Point Pleasant Fire Department is responsible for more than homes within Point Pleasant.

Currently, Bryant said there are around 27 firefighters in his department.

“It’ll be a good day of fellowship,” Bryant said. “We can let people know what we do and that we’re here.”

Next week, the Point Pleasant Fire Department, as well as many others across the county, are planning educational outreach programs for National Fire Prevention Safety Week by visiting local schools.
