The Wheelersburg man arrested in Texas for a Scioto County bank robbery has agreed to a plea deal that sends him to prison for six years.
Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn reported Monday that Elvis Kerns, 34, of Wheelersburg, who robbed the Charter One Bank branch in Wheelersburg on April 5, has agreed to a plea deal. Kerns reportedly entered a guilty plea to one count of felony robbery on Friday, then was sentenced to six years in prison.
Kerns had been set to go on trial Monday.
In June, a Scioto County grand jury indicted Kerns on two counts of robbery, one count of obstructing official business and one count of possession of criminal tools. He is also charged by Lawrence County authorities with robbing the US Bank branch in Proctorville on April 8.
Meanwhile, testimony did begin Monday in the trial of a Portsmouth man, Christopher Dsouza, 39, who is charged with Robbing the Westbanco branch on Gallia Street in Portsmouth on July 6. That trial may conclude today.
