FRANKLIN FURNACE – People tend to say that Friday the 13th usually produces some wacky results in any form or way of life.

For the Green Bobcats and the East Tartans, that statement could not be more true as the Bobcats came back from a 30-14 deficit to take a 41-38 victory over the Tartans in a game that featured big plays, big hitting and sheer mental resolve.

“I am really proud of all my guys tonight,” Bobcat coach Dan McDavid said after the game in a phone call to the Daily Times. “The older guys led the way and the younger guys showed a lot of mental toughness tonight. It’s a great win for our team.”

On a night where many players shined, the effort shown by Green’s Levi Mollett may have shined the brightest of all. Mollett parlayed tough running and quickness to the tune of 147 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Mollett also scored the first touchdown for the Bobcats via special teams as he returned a kick down the left sideline for a 78-yard touchdown return that gave the Bobcats a 7-6 lead early.

However, East was able to counter with its own powerful running game that was led by Jordan Bowen. The Tartans would jump out to a 22-7 advantage on the strength of two separate scampers of 19 and 66 yards by the 5 foot 10 inch, 205 pound senior.

After East extended its lead to 30-14 off of a 32-yard run by Akia Brown early in the second quarter, the scoring would simmer down until late in the 2nd quarter when Green began to make its run. After Mollett added a 56-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 30-20, the Bobcats would get the ball back and go on a 13-play, 78-yard drive that resulted in a Clay Applegate 1-yard touchdown run with 11 seconds left to cut the lead to 30-27 at the end of the first half.

Green would take the lead back with less than 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter, as Mollett turned on the burners and raced away from the defense for a 56-yard touchdown run that put the Bobcats up by four with three seconds to play in the third quarter.

East would take the lead back as Bowen bounced off of several Green defenders and scampered into the end zone for his third touchdown of the night, a 7-yard tally that gave the Tartans the lead by four with 8:17 left play.

The Bobcats would come right back on the ensuing kickoff and would score its second special teams touchdown of the night as Kyle Frazier would race down the left sideline for the game-winning 70-yard touchdown return in what was a near carbon-copy of Mollett’s return three quarters earlier.

East would proceed to drive down into Green territory and even converted a 4th and 4 when Michael Stiltner found Bowen in the flat for a 19-yard gain. However, the Bobcats were able to hold tough and stopped the Tartans on four straight downs when Kanyon Bruton picked off a Stiltner pass in the end zone.

For next week, Green will travel to Dayton to play Jefferson Township while East will host Manchester. Both games are next Friday at 7:30.
