Beginning with a CPR class on Sept. 20, Shawnee State University Outreach Services will be offering a series of four Ohio Department of Education-approved licensure sessions for teachers. Online registration is required for each course.
The first session, “CPR,” will be held on Friday, Sept. 20 in University Center, Room 214. Enrollment is limited to 10 participants. To register, visit http://ssu-21stcclc.eventbrite.com. The second course, “First Aid & Safety,” will be held on Friday, Sept. 27 in University Center, Room 215. Enrollment is limited to 20 participants. These first two courses have been approved by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and meets the criteria for the required six-hour course for childcare providers.
The third session, “Communicable Disease Recognition,” will be held on Friday, Oct. 4 in University Center, Room 215. This course will familiarize participants with the definition of communicable disease, how disease is spread, means of prevention, signs of illness in children, major diseases found in childcare facilities, and how to care for ill children. The fourth session, “Child Abuse Recognition & Prevention,” will be held on Friday, Oct. 18, also in University Center, Room 215. Participants will review Ohio law pertaining to child abuse and neglect, including definitions, reporting and confidentiality. This session meets ODJFS licensing requirements. All six-hour certification courses are from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and cost $40. Three-hour refresher courses are from 9 a.m. to noon and cost $25. Employees of 21st CCLC Scioto County partner schools (Bloom-Vernon, Clay, Green, Minford, New Boston, Northwest, Portsmouth and Sciotoville) may attend each workshop free of charge.
