Sarah Surina, Director of Main Street Portsmouth, is announcing that MSP, in partnership with the City of Portsmouth, will be awarding $25,000 in grant money through the Main Street Portsmouth Building Improvement Grant Program. The Building Improvement Grant Program was initiated when Main Street Portsmouth was awarded a $25,000 grant from Heritage Ohio and the Ohio Department of Development.
Surina said the goal of the program is to promote improvements to commercial properties in the Main Street Portsmouth district.
“Main Street Portsmouth has been able to continue the program with generous support from the City of Portsmouth which allocated funds for Historic Preservation from the Capitol Improvement Budget,” Surina said. “This is a 50:50 matching grant with a $5,000 maximum per applicant. It allows owners of commercial properties within the Main Street Portsmouth district to be eligible for improvements that are visible from a public right‐of‐way. These grants are in recognition of the positive impact that individual building renovations can have on the overall appearance and quality of their storefronts.”
Applications are available at the Main Street Portsmouth office located at 342 Second Street inside the Scioto County Welcome Center, online at www.mspohio.org, or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling 740‐464‐0203. All applications, fees, and supporting documentation must be received by Main Street Portsmouth no later than Oct. 4, 2013. Awards will be publicly announced no later than Oct. 14, 2013.
“The Building Improvement Grant Program is a great opportunity for business owners to take advantage of in regards to restoring the historic integrity of our downtown,” Surina said.
