WHEELERSBURG — Best Care Nursing Home welcomed members of Wheelersburg football team and cheerleading squad Friday for a tailgate party.
Christina Boyles, Activity Director for Best Care Nursing Home, said hosting the tailgate party was a group effort.
“This was a team effort between the Activities Department and our Missions Director came up with the idea of taking the residents to the ball game.” Boyle said.
Boyle said 10 residents attended the Wheelersburg football game Friday night.
Thelma Johnson, a 100-year-old resident of Best Care, said she enjoyed the visit from Wheelersburg’s athletes.
“I think it was great having them here cheering today, I just loved it,” Johnson said.
Eddie Miller III, senior quarterback for Wheelersburg said he enjoyed being a part of the event.
“It’s just a great way to get the community together, and to be a part of this. It’s good to come here and see the smiles on everyone’s faces,” Miller said.
Cassidy Walker, a senior cheerleader for Wheelersburg said participating was a great experience.
“It really makes me happy to come and cheer for the residents, and to help put a smile on their faces. It is nice to see how they view us and to get their support,” Walker said.
Stacy Lester, Lighthouse Coordinator, said she appreciates the visit from Wheelersburg.
“The coaching staff, the cheerleaders and football players, its just good to get their support as well. I am glad they came,” Lester said.
Kevin Gullion, Activity Assistant at Best Care said the residents enjoy interacting with the community.
“It is something that they look forward to and something that they enjoy,”Gullion said.
According to Boyle, Best Care will continue to seek out other exciting opportunities for their residents to participate and connect with the community.
