In 2012, the community started “Battling For Boston.” Through many events and fundraisers the community joined in the battle with young Boston Schwamberger, who had been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

On Wednesday morning Schwamberger, 4, of Wheelersburg died surrounded by his family.

In his obituary that appears in today’s edition of the Daily Times, it details Schwambergers life including some of the things he enjoyed, “Boston attended pre-school at Notre Dame Elementary, was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, and loved John Deere.”

Born July 22, 2009 in Portsmouth Boston is the son of Joseph and Ashley Bennett Schwamberger.

“No words I can say will do justice to the impact and positive energy his life provided people,” said Dale King, a family friend. “Joe (Bostons’ father) and I were talking the other day and after they realized he was not going to live much longer. Joe told me people will be angry, people will want a miracle that will save the life of their child. The kind of cancer Boston had, usually takes kids out within one to three months. After diagnosis Boston lived for nine months.”

Joe said that was the miracle God gave the family.

“Boston was the type of person that would not let you feel sorry for him and the family does not want people to fell bad for them. They want people to understand that life is a gift,” King said. “It’s not a time to be sad, it’s a time to celebrate his four years on this earth.”

Services for Boston are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday Sept. 7, 2013 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Rev. Adam Streitenberger officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg.

Friends may call at Melcher Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 p.m. A Recitation of Rosary will be at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
