Panthers sweep Tartans in Tuesday’s SOC I match

Ten kills each by Katie Redding and Annie Hopkins helped Clay to a three-set sweep over host East Tuesday in SOC I play.

Redding had 13 points, four of them were aces, while Hopkins finished with seven points, two of them coming via the ace. Gabby Hickman chipped in with 16 points (four aces) and 27 assists for the Panthers. Clay hosts Green Thursday.

Notre Dame improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in SOC I play Tuesday with a sweep at Green.

Emma Gohmann paced the Titans with 23 points (13 aces) and five kills. Brooke Pierron added 13 points (two aces), 11 kills and seven digs while Maggie Hoover chipped in with 10 assists.

Bri Wiget’s 22 points (nine aces), eight kills and two blocks led Waverly to an SOC II road sweep of Oak Hill in Tuesday’s action.

Hannah Martin matched Wiget’s total in the kills department and added five blocks while Kaitlynn Ross led the Tigers with 12 kills, Kayla Riffe finished with 10 digs and two aces and Maddy Wiseman chipped in with 35 assists.

Waverly travels Thursday to South Webster.

Northwest kept its perfect season intact Tuesday with a home SOC II sweep of Minford.

Haleigh Vastine led the Mohawks with 13 kills. Brooke Miller’s 23 assists and Ashley Riley’s 20 digs were also team highs.

Northwest plays its second home match of the week Thursday when West comes to town for an SOC II matchup.

The Jeeps were led by Haley Potters (19 kills, seven digs), Corey Sherman (18 assists, seven kills, seven digs), Taylor Hanes (seven assists) and Maddie Stamper (12 digs). South Webster hosts Waverly Thursday.

A four-goal barrage in the second half proved to be the difference Tuesday as host South Webster prevailed over Clay 5-1.

Shane Zimmerman recorded the hat trick in the contest, scoring all three of his goals in the second half. Denver Fuller and Alek Blevins each finished with a goal and an assist. Mason Pelphrey’s first half tally was the only one for the Panthers.

The Jeeps welcome Wheelersburg for a Thursday showdown while Clay hosts Northwest.
