At the Thursday meeting of the Scioto County Commissioners, resolutions were passed to reject bids for two 2012 formula allocation projects due to high bids.
The projects were a paving at Earl Thomas Conley Park and a rehabilitation project for the 17th Street Community Center.
The commissioners rejects the bids based on the recommendation of Michele Throckmorton, grants administrator for Scioto County.
Throckmorton wrote in a letter to the commissioners, “This letter is in reference to the Earl Thomas Conley (ETC) Park Paving Project bid opening held on Aug. 8. One bid was received for the ETC paving project from Roberts Paving Inc., (of Hillsboro, Ohio) in the amount of $75,840. This amount exceeds the project cost, so I am requesting that this bid be rejected by the commissioners so the project can be re-bid at a later date.”
According to the Roberts Paving bid, the project would consist of, removing existing speed bumps, paving 6,500 square feet of space, clean and track areas to be paved, 54,000 square feet, pave two inch 448-T1 asphalt 64-22 binder approx. 654 tons and replace speed bumps.
Throckmorton wrote about the 17th Street rehabilitation project, “One bid was received for the 17th Street Community Center project from DCM Building Solutions, LLC, (of Piketon, Ohio) in the amount of $96,573.36. This amount exceeds the project cost, so I am requesting that this bid be rejected by the commissioners so the project can be re-bid at a later date.”
No details of the rehabilitation project were available.
“Anytime an estimate is 10 percent over the projected cost, we have to reject those bids and re-bid the project,” said Skip Riffe, Scioto County Commissioner. “These are CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) funds so it’s important that we get these projects.”
No timetable was given as to when the projects would be re-bid.
