Warriors clinich third seed

The Kentucky Warriors defeated the Southern Ohio Spartans 41-14 Saturday to clinch the third seed in the Northern Frontier Football League postseason. With the victory, the Warriors finish the regular season with a 9-1 mark en route to winning the River City Divison.

In Saturday’s contest, Kentucky struck early as Jermaine Payton took his only handoff of the game and scored from 20 yards out.

The scored remained 7-0 until the early parts of the second quarter when Jordan Schankweiler scored his first of two rushing touchdowns, a 26-yard run. Schankweiler finished the contest rushing 10 times for 90 yards and the aforementioned two touchdowns.

Justin Lunsford had a short night in terms of passing attempts but he was effective nonetheless. Lunsford finished the game going 5-for-8 for 119 yards and two touchdowns.

As a team, the Warriors’ quarterbacks went 8-for-13 passing for 228 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Kentucky also found success on the ground as their running backs rushed 17 times for 153 yards, averaging 9 yards per attempt.

On the night, the Warriors ran a total of 30 plays for 381 yards, which saw them average 12.7 yards per play.

Defensivley, the Warriors stifled the Spartans for most of the night.

The Spartans’ quarterbacks finished the game going 6-for-15 for 48 yards and four interceptions. Southern Ohio did find success rushing the ball against the Warriors. The Spartans rushed 25 times for 157 yards but were stifiled by the four turnovers.
