WHEELERSBURG — Kids across the county are getting ready to head back to school, but not everyone can afford back-to-school supplies to help them succeed in the classroom. Transamerica Agency Network (formerly Monumental Insurance) in Wheelersburg is helping out with a special backpack giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 10.
Brandon Ruckel, an associate at Transamerica, said school backpacks have been donated to the United Way of Scioto County, and Transamerica will fill each of them with school supplies to be handed out at their event next weekend from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“We’re going to be doing a Family Protection event. We’ll be giving out back-to-school supplies with the help of the United Way,” Ruckel said. “As well as we’re going to be doing fingerprinting for the kids that want to do it and we’re going to turn those into the Sheriff’s Department.”
Backpacks will be filled with notebooks, crayons, pens, glue and other standard supplies purchased by Transamerica, and donated by Wal-Mart. The event is open to all kids in Scioto County regardless of age or family income level.
“We just feel it’s important to help the kids out. We feel it’s important to do something for the community and it helps us get our name out there and give back to them,” Ruckel said.
He said Transamerica is hosting the event in recognition of Insurance Awareness Month, and to help promote their move from Monumental to Transamerica. The event is Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Transamerica office located at 9074 Ohio River Road, in Wheelersburg.
