The horseback rides for children to benefit Wild Horse Rescue was preempted by a few rain drops Saturday morning, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of those who attended the Main Street Portsmouth Farmer’s Market on the Esplanade in downtown Portsmouth.
Southern Ohio Medical Center staff members were on hand with the tools of their trade.
“Today SOMC is doing a free health screening for blood pressure and blood sugar,” MSP Director Sarah Surina said.
Dawn Richards of SOMC’s Community Health and Wellness program was checking Ronny Richards’ blood pressure. She said the staff likes to get out into the community and conduct health screenings and reminded area residents they will be at the Pike County Fair next week.
Surina was also selling tickets to MSP’s Farm to Table Dinner, scheduled for Aug. 26 at the SOMC Friends Center located at 1202 18th St. in Portsmouth..
“It’s a dinner that’s going to showcase food from each of our vendors here at the Farmer’s Market,” Surina said. “It will be from 6 to 8 p.m.”
Surina said tickets for the dinner are available at the Main Street Portsmouth office, at the MSP Farmer’s Market on Saturday or at SOMC. Tickets are $15 and ticket information is also available by calling Roxanne Cooley at 740-356-8240.
