Athens Ohio Youth Softball Tournament

The Athens Sandlot softball league will host a girls fast pitch softball tournament for girls ages 8-12. The “Sixth annual Grand Slam Invitational” on July 4 through July 7. The tournaments will be round robin format with all teams guaranteed four games. Entry fee is $300. Contact John Pratt, 740-664-1807 or john.d.pratt@gmail.com.

Jackson County Freedom Fest 5K run and walk

The 17th annual Jackson County Freedom Fest 5K run and walk will be held on Thursday, July 4 at Manpower Park on East Main Street. The event will begin at 9 a.m. There is a $15 entry fee. All participating runners will receive a t-shirt. Plaques will be awarded to the top-three male and female finishers. Boys coach/pitch all star tournament

Boys, under 9 and 10, coach/pitch all-star tournament will be held July 12-14 at the First National Bank Ballpark in Beaver. Cost to enter the tournament is $225 per team. SOMC Triathlon Clinic

Before the second annual Sprint Triathlon in August, Southern Ohio Medical Center will be hosting a Triathlon Clinic on July 13 from 8-10a.m. SOMC’s Sprint Triathlon is made up of three events: A 200-meter swim, a 10-mile bike course and a 5K run. All three events will be discussed during the clinic, so participants are asked to bring running gear, swim wear, including goggles, and their bicycle. The clinic will also cover injury prevention and nutrition. The Triathlon will take place on August 25. For more information, or to sign up, contact the SOMC Life Center at 740-356-7650.

Summer Fastpitch Classic

The Summer Fastpitch Classic will be held July 26, 27 and 28 at First National Bank Park in Beaver, Ohio, weather permitting. There are six divisions; ladies, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U. There is a $350 entry fee. Clay Golf Scramble

The annual Clay Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Shawnee State Golf Course. The Scramble will cost $240 a team or $60 individually. The Scramble includes 18 holes, cart, food, door prizes and prize money. 2013 RRCA State Championship in Parkersburg, W.Va.

The 2013 News and Sentinel Half Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 17, and coincides with the Parkersburg Homecoming, which features live music among other events. Trophies and prize money are awarded each year to the top four overall winners in the men’s and women’s divisions of the half marathon. Additionally, prize money is awarded to the top three winners in each age group with a trophy for fourth and fifth place in each age group. Circleville Dog Days 5K

The 12th annual Circleville Dog Days 5K road race, presented by Red Barn, will be held Saturday, August 3 at 9 a.m., beginning and ending at Circleville High School. The event boasts unique “Dog Days” suncatchers, given to the top three in each of 32 total age groups, plus awards to the top three overall male and female finishers. Numerous door prizes also will be awarded, water and splits will be available on the course and refreshments will be available at the finish line. If you are interested in running, print an entry form at circlevillexc.com or register the day of the race from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. There is a $15 preregistration fee ($20 on race day) and at least the first 150 registered will receive a free T-shirt.
