A witness, said he had seen that Vaughters was growing marijuana in the bedroom of the trailer where he was living and that he had tried to get help for Vaughters for his heroin habit, but he had continued to check himself out of rehab.
Vaughters told police they could search the residence. They opened the bedroom door and found eight pots of dirt with small marijuana plants growing inside, a large heat light hanging above it, a power inverter attached to the light, and a can fan with a filter running beside the plants.
Vaughters was read his Miranda Rights, while officers continued to search the room. Additionally they found numerous hypodermic syringes, several spoons with burn marks and suspected heroin residue, and a metal tube with burn marks and Chore Boy, commonly used for smoking crack cocaine.
Also found was an oxygen tank with a plastic air tube attached with dirt residue on the end, a prescription bottle of liquid lidocaine, with another person’s name on the label, a prescription pill bottle in the kitchen containing a plastic baggie with marijuana seeds inside, a hypodermic needle under a couch cushion, and another in the bathroom cabinet. Additionally they found scales and several pairs of hemostats in the drawer in the living room coffee table.
A search of the car Vaughters drives turned up six more hypodermic syringes in the driver’s door tray.
Police said Vaughters advised them he has a heroin habit and does about $30 a day, but he told them he will do as much as he can get. He was arrested and charged with illegal manufacture of drugs or cultivation of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possessing drug abuse instruments and possession of criminal tools.
