Two guns have been confiscated and two people arrested at a Wheelersburg hotel. Arrested was Brian S. Dawson, 46, and Britney Runyon, 33, both of Minford. Dawson was charged with one count of having a weapon under disability, a felony of the third degree. Runyon has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, a felony of the fourth degree and a probation violation and is being held without bond.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his deputies responded to a call at the Comfort Inn located on Ohio River Road in Wheelersburg Saturday. The call came in as a suspicious smell coming from one of the rooms.

Donini said deputies responded to this location along with the Ohio Highway State Patrol and observed Runyon and Dawson putting items into a white truck in the parking lot. It turned out that Runyon had a bench warrant and was searched before being transported to the Scioto County Jail. During the search, deputies said a marijuana pipe was found on her person.

Portsmouth Municipal Court probation officers were contacted because Runyon was on probation. When probation officers arrived, a search of the truck and Runyon’s belongings was conducted. During the search, a loaded 40 caliber was found in Runyon’s purse along with another loaded handgun from the center console.

Donini said it is an ongoing investigation and more charges could be presented to the Scioto County grand jury at a later date.

Dawson was held on a $10,000 bond, while Runyon is being held without bond.
