SunCoke Energy, Haverhill Operations, recently affirmed their support of the area’s local schools, when the management team and employees donated $5,000 to the Wheelersburg Local Schools.
According to John Essman, General Manager, the management team and employees are thrilled to be active participants in the community. The funds were designated to support three areas within the Wheelersburg Local Schools. The District plans to purchase additional classroom walkie-talkie radios for communications. The additional walkie-talkies will supplement the existing radios at each grade level and will enhance the staff’s ability to communicate during emergencies.
A portion of the donation was designated to support the District’s technology program for special needs students. Hardware for creative reading and math instructional software will be purchased for special needs students who benefit from the interaction and simplicity of touchscreen computing.
Part of the donation was designated for the Wheelersburg Middle School Principal’s fund. This fund supports student activities within Wheelersburg Middle School and will be used for the Equality Alliance project activities. This student and staff led initiative promotes positive leadership and relationships among students. The Equality Alliance teaches respect and tolerance of all individuals.
Mark Knapp, Superintendent and George Grice, Treasurer of Wheelersburg Local Schools expressed their gratitude to the staff at SunCoke Energy, Haverhill Operations.
“We are extremely grateful for the support of our students and staff here at Wheelersburg Schools by SunCoke Energy, Haverhill Operations. Their generosity will allow us to provide unique learning opportunities for our students and enhance our emergency communications,” he said.
