Coolville Hot Club at Southern Ohio Museum

The Coolville Hot Club moves into the Southern Ohio Museum Friday, April 12, from 7 to 9 p.m., as they dish up some their special blend of jazz. The performance is set to take place in the Edmund J. Kricker Gallery alongside the newest exhibit, “Powerhouse Prints: Selections from the Kennedy Museum of Art Collection.”

Based in Athens, Ohio, the band first got together to play music inspired by the great gypsy swing music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Jeff Carr and Art Werger have played together for many years; Mark Burhans (a member of the nationally touring contemporary contradance band Hotpoint Stringband) joined them in 2005, and upright bassist Michael Sisson signed on in early 2007. Emily Burhans, Mark’s daughter, began singing with them in 2008. The band has since branched out a bit and their repertoire now includes the music of artists ranging from Jobim to John Lennon.

Tickets are $8 general/$6 student, senior, member. Refreshments will be served.
