Open job interviews are happening in Portsmouth today, hiring more than 10 people for a new discount, name-brand clothing store moving into the Kmart shopping center in New Boston.
“It’s name-brand for less,” said Judy Piurowski, director of stores for Huck Finn Clothing (doing business as “Label Shopper”). “It’s overstock, not seconds or irregulars.”
Originally from Albany, N.Y., Label Shopper already has 47 locations in the United States and is adding seven more this month — including five in Ohio, with one in the former Fashion Bug in the Kmart shopping center on Rhodes Avenue in New Boston.
“We originated out of Albany, N.Y., and we kind of moved up north to Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, and then we started opening in Pennsylvania. Now we’re going to be opening several stores in Ohio. By the middle of April we’ll have five stores in Ohio,” Piurowski said.
She said the New Boston Label Shopper store will begin setting up later this month and hopes to open in very-early April. In preparation, the company is having an open interview session from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. today for interested applicants at Workforce Connections on Third Street in Portsmouth. The company is hiring a total of 10 or 12 manager assistants, key supervisors, and sales associates. The positions are full- and part-time.
Piurowski said additional applications will still be accepted at the Label Shopper store after it opens.
“We’re looking forward to opening in Ohio,” she said.
