FRANKLIN FURNACE — The Green School Board hired Brodie Merrill as district treasurer during their regular school board meeting on Feb. 22. This latest hire continues a treasurer shuffle that began at Portsmouth City School and touched five school districts so far.
According to Green Superintendent Sandy Mers, Merrill was formerly an assistant treasurer at Sciotoville Community School for three years until he accepted a job as district treasurer at Symmes Valley in Lawrence County in October 2012.
“He is very well-qualified and energetic, and student-focused; which is tremendous,” Mers said.
Merrill already lives in the Green School District. His wife Erika Merrill teaches business and finance at Green High School; their son attends kindergarten at Green and Brodie said they have another child on the way. His first day at Green is Monday and he said he doesn’t plan on going anywhere for a very long time.
“I live in the district, I pay taxes there. I mean, that’s where my heart is at, back in Scioto County,” he said. “I’m glad to be back there. Now I’m right there, and I’ll never miss my kid’s events. I’m right there with him. It’s a great benefit.”
Merrill will replace former Green treasurer John Walsh, who accepted a job as treasurer at Northwest last month to replace Diana Reedy. Reedy left Northwest to accept a job as district treasurer at Portsmouth City Schools. She replaced Kyle Smith at Portsmouth who left the district in February to accept a job as assistant treasurer at the Upper Arlington City School District in Franklin County.
