Boys and girls basketball coaches from the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League selected the 2012-2013 all-league lists as Portsmouth has three total on the First Team with a pair receiving Honorable Mention.
For the Trojan boys, senior Jayllen Carter and freshman Ky’re Allison were tabbed by the coaches. Carter, the lone returning letterwinner from last year’s state runner-up squad, finished his high school career averaging 20.4 points and five rebounds per game. He also reset the school’s single-game scoring record with a 44-point performance at Jackson.
In his first season, Allison averaged 11 points, five rebounds and four assists per contest. For Honorable Mention, Alex Dickerson was named from Portsmouth.
On the girls side, sophomore Peighton Williams is a First Team selection after being on the Honorable Mention list a year ago. This season, Williams averaged 20 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and three assists as she set the school’s single-season scoring record with 453 points. During her freshman campaign, she also set the single-game scoring mark with 42 points in a tournament game.
The Trojan girls’ Honorable Mention was Dasia Kennedy.
Player and Coach of the Year Honors for each gender went to either the champion or one of the co-champions. For the boys, Warren’s Evan French won Player of the Year while his coach, Blaine Maddox, was the league’s top coach. With the girls, Jackson junior Madison Ridout was Player of the Year and her coach, Matt Walburn, was the Coach of the Year.
