Hearing today for NB rape case

A pretrial hearing for a man indicted on multiple counts of rape and gross sexual imposition will be held 1 p.m. today before Judge Howard H. Harcha.

According to the the Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn, a Michael L. Lockhart, 51, who was arrested and charged in January with multiple counts of rape, was indicted by a Scioto County grand jury.

Lockhart was indicted on eight counts of rape and six counts of gross sexual imposition after three juvenile sisters came to the New Boston Police Department in early December accusing Lockhart of sexual conduct with penetration and oral penetration. The sisters alleged the conduct took place over the course of several years.

After an investigation by the NBPD and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations - Child Sex Assault Unit, Lockhart was arrested and charged Jan. 15.

According to New Boston Police Capt. Steve Goins, the incidents occurred between the years of 2002 to 2009 with multiple sexual occurrences with the victims. Each incident occurred in New Boston.

At the time of the alleged rapes, one victim was 8-years-old, another was 5-years-old and the third was 6-years-old.

Upon the conclusion of the investigation, Lockhart was brought in by the NBPD where he confessed to the offenses.
