The Ohio State Highway Patrol is withholding the name of the driver who struck a bicyclist who later died at a Huntington Hospital.

A news release from the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says, “The identity of the driver is not being released at this time and the crash is still under investigation.”

Portsmouth Post Commander Lt. Karla Taulbee said, the reason the name is not being released is that no arrest has been made and she (Taulbee) is awaiting a decision by Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn as to whether the driver is to be charged or not.

The operator of the bicycle, Shawn R. Hamilton, 22, whose address is unknown, died at Cabell Huntington Hospital after being airlifted there following the crash which occurred Monday evening on Ohio 522 in Wheelersburg. The operator of the vehicle that struck the man left the scene. Authorities described the vehicle as a 2002-2007 Buick Rendezvous.

Now authorities say the driver of that vehicle has come forward, but the name is not yet being released.

“The reconstructionist came down, went over everything,” Taulbee said. “They just left, so now it’s all going down to Mark’s office to see what those charges are going to be, if any.”
