NEW BOSTON — New Boston police arrested five people Thursday afternoon for selling prescription pills from their home on Millbrook Avenue.
According to New Boston Police Capt. Steve Goins, a months-long investigation of selling prescription pills led to a grand jury indictment and Thursday arrests of Ricky Grooms, age 47, his common-law spouse Dana Cattell, age 43, their son Ryan Grooms, age 22, and Ricky Grooms’ brother Roy Grooms, age 46. All four lived on Millbrook Avenue, in New Boston.
After their arrest, another son another son Ricky Grooms II, age 25, of Portsmouth, also turned himself in at the Scioto County Correctional Jail.
Ricky Grooms was charged with two counts of fourth-degree felony trafficking in drugs, and one count of fifth-degree aggravated possession of drugs. Dana Cattell was charged with one count of fourth-degree felony trafficking in drugs. Ryan Grooms was charged with one count of fifth-degree felony trafficking in drugs, and one count of first-degree misdemeanor possession of drugs. Roy Grooms was charged with one count of fifth-degree felony trafficking in drugs, and one count of first-degree misdemeanor possession of drugs. Ricky Grooms II was charged with two counts of fourth-degree felony trafficking in drugs, and one count of fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs.
All suspects will remain in the Scioto County Jail until their arraignment hearings in the Common Pleas Court.
Goins said New Boston Police have received many complaints and drugs tips from the Millbrook Avenue area, and he thanked the citizens who are concern enough to report suspicious activity. Goins said the department investigates all reports, and reminds citizens that once an investigation has began, it might take weeks or even months to complete before it is ready to be presented to the grand jury.
