A man who reportedly shot three horses that had come onto his property has been given a summons on a charge of injuring animals. Meanwhile, the owner of those three horses has also received a summons for the prohibition against animals running at large.
Michael Metzger, 27, of 2337 Breckenridge Road, in Otway, said on Tuesday around 5 p.m. three horses belonging to Stoney Carver, came into his yard, which is approximately two miles from Carver’s property, and he ran them off. They reportedly went to his hay field in the 3000 block of Breckenridge Road. He told Scioto County Sheriff’s deputies he got his shotgun and killed all three of them in his field. Metzger advised deputies the horses are loose every day and that he lost some $500 in hay from the last harvest. Metzger received a summons on the injuring animals charge.
Carver, 45, of 3887 Breckenridge Road, said around 6 p.m. that day, his neighbor told him that Metzger had shot his three horses up on the hill in a field in the 3000 block of Breckenridge Road. Carver, according to the sheriff’s report, told deputies that his horses do get out and go onto Metzger’s property and graze, and that he was unable to stop it.
Carver received a court summons for allowing his animals to run at large.
