Waverly police arrest armed robbery suspect

Waverly police arrested an man in connection with two armed robberies of a delivery driver in Pike County.

According to Waverly Police Chief Larry Row, police were called to an armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver on Dean Street at 8:40 p.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, officers were told that an order was placed to deliver to the residence on Dean Street, which was vacant. When the drive approached, a subject reportedly appeared from behind the house wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt, and carrying a knife. The suspect put the knife to the driver’s throat and demanded his money bag and cell phone.

After a brief investigation, officers arrested James Trent Jr., 27, of Wakefield Mound Road, and charged him with aggravated armed robbery and tampering with evidence. Trent was taken to the Scioto County Jail.

During their investigation, it was also discovered that Trent had committed another robbery several days earlier, of another delivery driver. That incident occurred outside the city of Waverly, and was turned over to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.

Trent will appear in court on Wednesday, and the investigation remains ongoing.
