Juanita Adkins Lawson, 82

Juanita Christy Adkins Lawson, 82, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, formerly of Garrison, Ky., passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 18, 2012, in SOMC Hospice Care Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.

She was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Lewis County, Ky., a daughter of the late Carl Lester and Manchie Collins Christy.

Juanita was a homemaker, also a member of the First Church of Christ on Dogwood Ridge, in Wheelersburg, Ohio. She was a former employee of the Scioto Memorial Hospital. Juanita loved going to yard sales, estate sales, making ceramics and was a expert seamstress. She also loved her church family and remained steadfast in her faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Vernon Adkins, her oldest daughter, Babrabra Ann Underwood, one sister, Wanda Justice.

Juanita is survived by her husband of 26 years, Allard “Hap” Lawson; four daughters and sons in-law, Susan and Jack McCleese of Highland Heights, Ky.; Carla Jo and Larry Burriss of Garrison, Ky.; Tammy and Tom Oakley of Indianapolis, Ind.; Tammy and Fred Nelson of Wheelersburg, Ohio; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Robert “Bob” Christy of Gainesville, Fla.; one sister, Charlene Dewey of Champlin, Minn. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg, Ky., with Brother Randy Wickham officiating. Burial will follow in the Waring Cemetery in Garrison, Ky.

Friends may visit from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, and until the services hour Monday at Dickerson Funeral 110 West Second Street, Vanceburg, Ky. 41179.

Eastern Star rites will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, by Order of Eastern Star Kentucky No. 222 at Dickerson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Tom Oakley, Will McCleese, Jason Underwood, Josh Underwood, Fred Nelson, Arnold Underwood will serve as pallbearers.
