Details of Romney visit taking shape

Country Music singer Jamie O’Neal will headline an appearance by Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney Saturday in Portsmouth.

Romney will attend a Victory Rally at Shawnee State University, where he will be joined by country music artist Jamie O’Neal. The event is set for the Alumni Green located at 940 Second St.

In addition to O’Neal, the Childrens Theater of the Portsmouth Area Arts Council, performing music from The Music Man and the National Anthem. Greenup County High School ROTC will perform color guard duties. Scioto County Commissioner Mike Crabtree will lead those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance and Pastor Scott Rawlins is tentatively scheduled for the invocation.

Rita Rice Morris, President of Shawnee State University, will welcome the attendees.

Bryan Davis, Communications Director for the Scioto County Republican Party said access to the public will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Invite time set for 1:30 p.m. and the program to begin at 2:05 p.m.

“Those that will be speaking are the Republican candidate for Second District U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Brad Wenstrup, who will serve as master of ceremonies, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH), and Romney,” Davis said. “Sixth District Congressman Bill Johnson had a previously scheduled appointment that he could not get out of.”

Davis said Ohio Senate President Tom Niehaus will be in attendance, 89th District State Representative Dr. Terry Johnson and local businesswoman Beth Haney will also speak at the event. Davis said U.S. Senatorial Candidate Josh Mandel is also tentatively expected to speak if he is able to be in attendance.

Davis said tickets are available at Portsmouth Victory Center, located at 612 Sixth St. in Portsmouth from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Davis said Romney will then travel to Lebanon, Ohio where he will appear at the Golden Lamb at 27 South Broadway St. That event is set to begin at 5:45 p.m.
