The The Salvation Army and Z Collections & Skechers partnered up Friday to give back to the community through the “Shoes 4 Charity” event at Z Collections shoe store Friday.

Local residents brought out shoes to event hosted by the Portsmouth shoe store, Z Collections. Owner, Nikki Donges, said “Shoes 4 Charity” was very glad to be giving back to the community.

“That is what it is all about. People helping people. Businesses helping other businesses,” Donges said.

In addition to the collection, selling, and custom designing of the “Bobs” Sketcher’s new brand of shoes, there was live entertainment provide by local folk music singers for the enjoyment of the gathered participants.

In exchange for bringing in a pair of gently used shoes, Z Collections donated a pair of shoes to Salvation Army. For each pair of shoes donated, the donors received 15 percent off of their purchase and had the option of having their “Bobs” customized by a local artist and a sales associate for Z Collections, Chelsea Tackett.

As the day progressed, store manager, Kayla Morrow, said that she was hopeful for increasing support for the effort.

“We also utilized Facebook, and sent emails out to our customers that frequent Z Collections,” Morrow said.

Donges said that Z Collections will continue to seek ways to give back to the community in the near future.
