The cool morning temperatures and sparse crowd did not hinder SOMC Life Center from going forward with their Fitness in the Park event Saturday morning.
SOMC Life Center hosted an event they called, “Fitness in the Park” Saturday at Tracy Park, which was free, and opened to the public.
The cool temperature perhaps could have been the reason for a small turnout, nonetheless, the small crowd worked out with certified fitness trainers Shelly Carver, and certified Yoga instructor, Barbara Duncan.
The group did a host of fitness routines, while workout out to contemporary music, salsa, and popular Zumba tunes.
Wendi Waugh, director of Health and Wellness at SOMC Life Center said the Fitness in the Park event is one of many events that SOMC will be offering to the community.
Waugh also said that the selection of the park was purposefully chosen, so that children as well as adults could see.
“We are trying to display a visual display of fitness. We believe that it is important for people to actually see fitness in action, especially children,” Waugh said.
Waugh also the goal of SOMC is to be instrumental in helping the community to become healthier.
“If you go to the SOMC website, you can access our community calendar and see the activities that we have coming up that are all geared toward healthy living,” Waugh said. “When we leave Tracy Park today, we will continue on to Lucasville, where we will be dancing and exercising also on the Life Center parking lot.”
Waugh said that she is very excited about today’s events, and looks forward to reaching out to give the community the tools to live stronger, healthier lives.
Each event is open to anyone in the community and designed to help generate increased interest in fitness and exercise.
