A 16-year-old boy died Sunday morning when his pickup truck struck three parked cars in Ironton.

According to the Ironton Police Department, a 1995 GMC pickup truck was traveling north in the 2400 block of South Eighth Street in Ironton at about 8 a.m. on Sunday, when the 16-year-old male driver lost control and struck a parked vehicle — knocking that vehicle into a yard. The truck then continued north and struck another parked vehicle, knocking that vehicle into a third parked vehicle, and then the truck came to a rest.

The driver of the truck was trapped inside and had to be extracted using the Jaws of Life. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

Ironton police were assisted at the scene by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ironton Fire Department, and the Lawrence County Emergency Medical Services. The crash remains under investigation.
