SOMC in negotiations to sell Riverview Retirement Center

Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) confirmed Wednesday they are in negotiations to sell Riverview Retirement Center to National Church Residences.

The deal was confirmed by SOMC President and CEO Randy Arnett along with the National Church Residences Vice President of Communications and Public Policy Karen Twinem.

“National Church Residences has expressed interest in working with SOMC to purchase the Riverview Retirement Center. Those talks are ongoing. We are excited about the potential for partnering with National Church Residences because of their expertise in senior living. They’re a national company with local roots, and they’re a proven leader in integrating home and supportive services,” Arnett said in a released statement.

Twinem also said in a released statement, “National Church Residences is in ongoing talks with Southern Ohio Medical Center about the possible purchase of Riverview Retirement Center. We consider the preservation of existing affordable senior housing a national priority, and we are honored to be working with the hospital in this effort.”

According to somc.org, “Riverview Retirement Center (located 500 Second St., Portsmouth) is a housing development for those 62 and older located in the historic Boneyfiddle section of Portsmouth. It consists of two renovated historic hotels beside a landscaped garden and courtyard. Apartments are fully equipped and close to a safe parking area. Residents are provided with 24-hour security, locked doors and inside mail facilities.”

According to the National Church Residences website, www.nationalchurchresidences.org, “National Church Residences is the nation’s largest not-for-profit developer and manager of affordable senior housing and services. With 330 plus communities in 28 states and Puerto Rico, including five Ohio-based senior health care communities, National Church Residences also owns and operates three additional Ohio continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs): National Church Residences Chillicothe, First Community Village, and Legacy Village.”

National Church Residences also operates Bristol Village in Waverly.
